Perauto offers the only true turnkey brake caliper painting service in the West Midlands and surrounding areas. Some companies will paint the calipers on the car, others will ask you to take them off and post them to be painted. Our brake caliper painting service does it all. You give us your car and over the course of two days we will strip, prepare and paint your calipers leaving a finish that is as good as an OEM painted caliper. This isn’t a cheap service, it’s a service done right.
We will never paint the calipers on the car.
You can have literally any colour you like – as long as there is a paint code for it – and any logo in a range of colours, we could even make something unique for you. We can also add in special effects such as coloured, heavy metallic flake or holographic metallic flake. If you have something specific in mind let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Painted brake calipers can transform the appearance of your car and it is one of the most cost effective customisations you can do.
We can do this service on its own or you can use the time to carry out other improvements while we have your car. Detailing, Alloy Wheel Refurbishment, Alloygators or a spot of PPF can all be done at the same time.
This is a set of brake calipers from a VW Transporter T6 that we refubished recently.
They were removed from the vehicle and sandblasted to bare metal removing all dirt and corrosion leaving a perfect surface for painting. We used a 4 stage process including an anti-corrosion layer and high solids clearcoat.
The logo was made in-house and applied to the colour layer but before clearcoat.
Once the paint is fully cured we rebuild the braking system using silicone grease for slide pins, Ceratek (ceramic grease) for pad guides etc, and threadlock as needed.
The brake fluid we use exceeds the requirements of the DOT 4.1 specification and we pressure bleed the hydraulic system to ensure there is no air.
On this build we replaced the discs and pads and did a complete fluid change.
Unlike other companies offering brake caliper painting, we will never paint your brake calipers while they are fitted to the car, they are always removed and dismantled as necessary. This gives you a much better finish, improves durability and prevents paint overspray contaminating your car.
Once we have removed your brake calipers from the car they are sandblasted to bare metal to remove all traces of rust, dirt and any previous coatings. After that they are thoroughly cleaned and inspected, masked off as needed and then painted in the colour of your choice using our 4 stage process.
Once the paint has dried we inspect the finish and rebuild the calipers. We generally refinish anti-rattle springs in a contrasting colour and refurbish slide pins and pad guides.
When putting your brake calipers back on your car we use high performance ceramic grease rather than traditional copper grease and use threadlock in the appropriate places. The hydraulic system is then pressure bled, wheels refitted to the correct torque, and the car road tested.
We carry out pre and post work diagnostic checks as part of this process.
We have all of the specialist tools required to carry out the work including car lifts, brake specific specialist tools, an advanced diagnostic computer for dealing with diagnostics, electronic park brakes, drive-by-wire braking systems and ABS pumps and a pressurised hydraulic fluid bleed system that ensures the brake fluid is free of air. And we have just invested in a tool that can handle VW/Audi SFD control unit protection found on their new cars.
Braking components removed from the car, drained, oil galleries plugged, all components sand blasted back to bare metal, solvent cleaning prior to paint. Spring clips and pads retaining pins are cleaned and painted as necessary.
Pistons and machined faces masked off, paint applied in 4 stages – anti-corrosion, primer, base (colour) and clear coat. Any logos are applied before the clear coat for maximum durability. Only top quality paints and ultra high solids clear coat are used and you can have any colour you like, as long as there is a colour code for it.
Calipers and carriers are rebuilt using new bleed valves. We use Ceratek grease for pad fitting and thread lock on fixings as needed. We can fit new pads and discs at this stage if you’d like them changed. The hydraulic system is then pressure bled, wheels torqued and the car road tested.
